Trier 1762-NM 20 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 1367 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabrück, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €4,800 (about US$6,470 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"TRIER, ERZBISTUM, Johann Philipp von Walderdorff, 1756-1768. 20 Kreuzer (Kopfstück) 1762, Koblenz. Probeprägung im 25-Guldenfuß. Von allergrößter Seltenheit. Nur wenige Stücke bekannt. Sehr attraktives Exemplar mit feiner Tönung, vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. (Germany, archbishopric of Trier, John Philip of Waldendorff, 1756-68, twenty kreuzer of 1762, Koblenz mint. Pattern, very rare, only a few pieces known. Very attractive example with fine toning, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"
The archbishopric issued numerous thalers in the eighteenth century, only a few are affordable. The region was annexed by France in 1792 and awarded to Prussia in 1815 by the Congress of Vienna. This date is not listed in the SCWC.
