Trier (1382-85) goldgulden Fr-3397a
This specimen was lot 2156 in Künker sale 352 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €480 (about US$668 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"TRIER, ERZBISTUM, Kuno II. von Falkenstein, 1362-1388. Goldgulden o. J. (1382-1385), Koblenz. GOLD. Kl. Druckstellen, kl. Prägeschwäche, sehr schön. (Germany, archbishopric of Trier, Kuno II von Falkenstein, 1362-88, undated goldgulden, Koblenz mint. Minor punch marks, slightly weakly struck, very fine.)"
This issue shows the archbishop's arms in a hexafoil. Friedberg also notes Fr-3397, with the arms in a trefoil, from this mint. Trier and the other archbishoprics were significant producers of gold in the Middle Ages.
