Steve Album sale 51, lot 2731

This specimen was lot 2731 in Steve Album Auction 51 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2025), where it sold for $1,080. The catalog description[1] noted, "TRAVANCORE: Rama Varma VI, 1885-1924, AR 1/2 rupee, ME1103 (1927), actually struck during the regency of Rani Setu Lakshmi Bayi after the death of Rama Varma VI and before the adulthood of the raja Bala Rama Varma II in 1931, AU." This type was struck ME 1084-1087 and 1103-1107 for the maharajah. Travancore was a princely state on the SW tip of India adjacent to the Madras presidency.

Specifications: 5.44 g, 0.950 fine silver, 24 mm diameter, this specimen 5.34 g.
