Sincona sale 66, lot 2099

This specimen was lot 2099 in Sincona sale 66 (Zürich, October 2020), where it sold for 3,800 CHF (about US$5,003 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SIEGENBURGEN, Fürstentum, Georg Rakoczi II. 1648-1660. Taler 1649 NB, Nagybànya. Sehr selten. Sehr schön. Leicht gereinigt. (principality of Transylvania, Georg Rakoczi II. 1648-1660, thaler of 1649, Nagybànya mint. Very rare, Very fine, Slightly cleaned.)"

This thaler was struck 1649-50 along with Dav-4742, -4742A, -4746, -4744, -4744A and -4745. This example realized triple the catalog value.
