Stephen Album sale 50, lot 2774

This specimen was lot 2774 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "DANISH INDIA: TRANQUEBAR: Frederick V, 1746-1766, AE 4 kas, (17)61, crowned F5 monogram // crowned DAC monogram, clear date, "4" for denomination below reverse, VF, RR, ex Solar Collection." The Danish fort at Tranquebar was sold to the British in 1845. During the reign of Christian VI, the lead cash was dropped in favor of a copper coin. As the one and two cash were reduced in weight, the four cash was added to supplement the denominations. This type is listed for 1761 and 1763. Examples exist with complete dates but we don't know if this die ever had a four digit date.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 2.40 g, copper, this specimen 2.71 g.

Catalog reference: KM-145, Gray-139, Jensen-242.
