Jean Elsen sale 158, lot 827

This specimen was lot 827 in Jean Elsen sale 158 (Brussels, March 2024), where it sold for €800 (about US$1,040 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"TOURNAI, Seigneurie, Philippe IV (1621-1665), AV couronne d'or, 1630. D/ Croix à triple nervure, évidée et feuillue. R/ Ecu couronné, accosté de deux briquets couronnés. Rare. Griffe au droit. Légères faiblesses de frappe. Très Beau à Superbe. (lordship of Tournai, Philip IV, 1621-65, gold crown of 1630. Obverse: voided leafy cross; reverse: crowned arms divides two crowned firesteels. Rare, scratch on the obverse, weakly struck, Very Fine - Extremely Fine.)"

This type was struck 1622, 1629-33, 1636, 1640-49. Altho not listed as rare, there are surprisingly few auction records for it and this is the second one we've added to the Wiki.

Reported Mintage: 94,000.
