Thurgau 1809 batzen
This specimen was lot 3641 in Sincona sale 64 (Zürich, June 2020), where it sold for 600 CHF (about US$752 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SWITZERLAND | Thurgau | Kanton, Batzen 1809, Solothurn. FDC. Prachtvolle Erhaltung. (canton of Thurgau, batzen of 1809, Solothurn mint. Uncirculated, Magnificent condition.)"
After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. Not until 1850 would a unified confederation mint her own coins and terminate the local issues. This series of 1808-09, which ranged from a half kreuzer to five batzen, is all there is for this canton.
