Thurgau 1808 batzen
This specimen was lot 3395 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$290 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Thurgau, Kanton, Batzen 1808, Solothurn. Vorzüglich-FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Thurgau, batzen of 1808, Solothurn mint. About Uncirculated.)"
After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. Not until 1850 would a unified confederation mint her own coins and terminate the local issues. This series of 1808-09, which ranged from a half kreuzer to five batzen, is all there is for this canton.
