Thurgau 1808 kreuzer
This specimen was lot 3397 in SINCONA Auction 97 (Zürich, May 2025), where it sold for 150 CHF (about US$218 including buyers' fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SCHWEIZ Thurgau, Kanton, Kreuzer 1808, Solothurn. FDC. (Switzerland, canton of Thurgau, kreuzer of 1808, Solothurn mint. Mint State.)"
After being temporarily unified under Napoleon's Helvetic Republic, the cantons went their separate ways after the Congress of Vienna and issued a torrent of low value coins. Not until 1850 would a unified confederation mint her own coins and terminate the local issues. This series of 1808-09, which ranged from a half kreuzer to five batzen, is all there is for this canton. Long and short branch varieties exist.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specifications: 0.97 g, billon, 18 mm diameter, this specimen 0.98 g.
