This specimen was lot 26107 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $1,762.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Confederation gold Proof 500 Francs 2004 Fribourg, Gem Proof. Perfectly preserved and deeply cameo contrasted. From The Formosa Collection." This semi-medallic coin is a descendant of the shooting thalers first awarded in the early nineteenth century altho it seems improbable that any of these circulated. Fribourg is a canton of Switzerland.
