Sincona sale 18, lot 3765

This type was struck at the Bern mint 1874-1967. The design is still in use today tho the coin is now copper-nickel. This specimen is struck to the standard of the French two francs of 1866-1920. Many of the dates from the twentieth century are very common and this one is no exception. Prior to confederation in 1850, each Swiss canton issued its own coins. This specimen was lot 3765 in Sincona sale 18 (Zürich, May 2014), where it sold for CHF 70 (about US$92 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"2 Franken 1940. Bern. FDC. (Switzerland, two francs of 1940, uncirculated.)"

The auction cataloguers neglected to mention the slab it is in.
