This specimen was lot 22799 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $5,875. The catalog description[1] noted, "Confederation 5 Francs 1873-B, MS65 NGC, a marvelous example of this very scarce date with superb silvery-gray patina and full underlying mint luster. An absolutely original coin with instant eye appeal. Very rare in this elite quality." This type was struck 1850-51 and 1873-74 only. This issue was struck in Bern and is the rare date. It was superseded in 1888 by a liberty head type (KM 34). All are expensive in nice condition.
