CNG Lissner sale, lot 1118

This specimen was lot 1118 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $484. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Gustaf VI Adolf. 1950-1973. AR 5 Kronor. Commemorating the King’s 80th Birthday. Stockholm mint. Benkt Ulvfot, engraver. Dated 1962 U. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 65. Choice brilliant uncirculated with just a hint of patina. Only one graded higher in 66. The total graded population is only eight pieces with this being the second highest. Close to 100,000 of these were melted." This specimen, the last Swedish coin to bear a Davenport number, sold for seven times the catalog value.

Recorded mintage: 256,000.

Specification: 18 g, 0.400 fine silver, .231 troy oz ASW, 34 mm diameter, this specimen Ø33.5 mm, 17.94 g, 12h axis.
