Sweden 1883-EB 50 ore
The first specimen was lot 4540 in Goldberg sale 75 (Los Angeles, September 2013), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Sweden. 50 Ore, 1883-EB. Oscar II. Mottled tan toning. NGC graded MS-65." The second specimen was lot 1392 in Stephen Album sale 32 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2018), where it sold for $282. The catalog description[2] noted, "SWEDEN: Oscar II, 1872-1907, AR 50 öre, 1885 EB, tied for highest graded at NGC, PCGS graded MS66." This type was minted 1875-83 and 1898-99. The later dates are fairly common but the early dates are scarce. Altho the weight matches that of the French franc, the fineness and diameter are different and it is unlikely they exchanged.
