Sweden 1816 1/2 skilling
This specimen was lot 11419 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €192 (about US$200). The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. 1/2 Skilling, 1816. Avesta Mint. Karl XIII. NGC MS-63 Red Brown. Lovely copper toning. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." This type was struck 1815-17. In 1814, Sweden obtained Norway from Denmark, and the title "king of Norway" was added to the silver coinage. This coin bears the king's monogram and the motto "FOLKETS VÄL MIN HÖGSTA LAG", meaning, "The welfare of the people is my highest law". The riksdaler was reformed in 1798 and again in 1830. During this reign, one riksdaler = 48 skilling.
