Sweden 1815-OL riksdaler specie Dav-348
This specimen was lot 1031 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $6,655. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN. Karl XIII. 1809–1818. AR Riksdaler. Stockholm mint. Olaf Lidijn, engraver. Dated 1815 OL. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Light iridescent toning over lustrous semi prooflike surfaces. A superbly beautiful coin. Highest graded specimen of this date. Purchased from B. A. Seaby, February 1972." This type is listed for 1814-18 and is somewhat scarce. The present dynasty is descended from Charles Bernadotte, one of Napoleon's generals who defected to Sweden. Collecting Swedish coins is complicated by the multiple currency reforms the country underwent during the period.
