This specimen was lot 1798 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 39 (Winter Park, FL, May 2026), where it sold for $1,800. The catalog description[1] noted, "SWEDEN, Avesta mint, copper ½ daler 'plate money,' Fredrik I, 1726. Choice example from this wreck with bold stamps and light surface corrosion, quite solid and thick, accompanied by a rare book about the plate money recovered from this wreck. Pedigreed to Sedwick Auction 10, with original lot-tag 509 and Sedwick photo-certificate, also with Ponterio Nicobar auction catalog of January 1990 and book The Plate Money Treasure of Nicobar, by Jimmy Herbert and Bertel Tingström (1999). Recovered from Nicobar, sunk in 1783 off South Africa." This type was issued 1720-50 and is the most common of all plate money. Millions were made but most were melted down to make other copper objects, including coins.
