Sweden 1647-DK 4 mark
This specimen was lot 30973 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $1,645. The catalog description[1] noted, "Christina 4 Mark 1647-DK, XF40 NGC. Circle of dots on the reverse. An attractive example of this large silver type with a laureate bust of Queen Christina on the obverse. The surfaces are evenly toned and very appealing and the design details are bold. A very scarce type with that old-time cabinet feel." Earlier four mark were 19.74 g, .821 fine; this type of 1647-49 is heavier but lower in fineness, containing about the same amount of silver. The subsequent issues of the 1660's were 20.80 g, 0.694 fine silver. Six mark made a riksdaler.
