Künker sale 293, lot 2159

This specimen was lot 2159 in Künker sale 293 (Osnabruck, Germany, July 2017), where it sold for €1,700 (about US$2,291 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEDEN, KÖNIGREICH, Karl IX. (1560-) 1604-1611. Riksdaler 1610, Stockholm. Variante mit MEVM in der Rückseitenumschrift. R Attraktives, sehr schönes Exemplar mit schöner Patina. (kingdom of Sweden, Charles IX, 1604-11, riksdaler of 1610, Stockholm mint, variety with MEVM in the obverse legend. Scarce, attractive, very fine example with handsome patina.)"

This type was issued 1607 and 1610-11. Many varieties exist, depending on the placement of "MEVM" and "NOS" on the reverse.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very scarce.

Specification: 29.25 g, 0.875 fine silver.
