Stralsund 1641-CS ducat Fr-3368
This specimen was lot 1104 in Sincona sale 90 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 3,600 CHF (about US$4,757 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"DEUTSCHLAND Stralsund, Stadt. Dukat 1641, Stralsund. Münzmeister Caspar Sievers. Selten. Fast vorzüglich. Exemplar der Auktion Westfälsiche Auktionsgesellschaft 70, Dortmund, April 2014, Lot 2342. Exemplar der Auktion Künker 141, Osnabrück, Juni 2008, Lot 4248. Exemplar der Auktion Künker 32, Osnabrück, 1996, Lot 4546. (Germany, city of Stralsund, ducat of 1641, Stralsund mint. Rare, About extremely fine.)"
Stralsund, in the duchy of Pomerania, was a member of the Hanseatic League but fell under Swedish rule 1637-1815, when the port passed to Prussia. While some of the minors are listed fairly inexpensively, all the gold coins are rare, including this type of 1638-55.
