This specimen was lot 29211 in Heritage sale 3022 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $188. The catalog description[2] noted, "Edward VII 50 Cents 1908, AU, with light golden toning and strong underlying luster. Most appealing." This denomination was 13.57 g until 1905, then 10.10 g (1907-08), then 8.42 g (1920-21). None were issued after 1921. The Straits Settlements began as a miscellaneous group of trading stations in Southeast Asia and gradually developed into what is now Malaya.
Recorded mintage: 2,869,000 including 1908-H.
Specification: 10.1 g, 0.900 fine silver, .292 troy oz ASW, 28 mm diameter, reeded edge.
