This specimen was lot 23648 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 1/4 Cent, 1908. London Mint. NGC MS-63 Brown. Even brown color and free of marks. The reverse was struck from a very rusty die, giving the false impression of pitting." The Straits Settlements began as a miscellaneous group of trading stations in Southeast Asia and gradually developed into what is now Malaya. This type was struck 1904-05 and 1908. It is not common.
