Straits Settlements 1916 1/4 cent

from the Stack's Bowers 2020 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73547

This specimen was lot 73547 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $168. The catalog description^[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 1/4 Cent, 1916. NGC MS-64+ Red Brown. About as close to Gem status as one can get, this vibrant example features incredible luster and great red-brown color." This is the only quarter cent struck for George V and the last of the denomination. It is not common but is more available than the quarter cents of Edward VII (KM 17).

Recorded mintage: 4,000,000 plus proofs.
