This specimen was lot 73547 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 1/4 Cent, 1916. NGC MS-64+ Red Brown. About as close to Gem status as one can get, this vibrant example features incredible luster and great red-brown color." This is the only quarter cent struck for George V and the last of the denomination. It is not common but is more available than the quarter cents of Edward VII (KM 17).
Recorded mintage: 4,000,000 plus proofs.
