This specimen was lot 76328 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 5 Cents, 1903. Edward VII. NGC MS-62." This type was struck in London 1902-03 and, tho common in worn condition, is quite scarce nice. It was reduced to 0.600 fine in 1910, then 0.400 fine in 1918. The Straits Settlements began as a miscellaneous group of trading stations in Southeast Asia and gradually developed into what is now Malaya and Singapore.
Recorded mintage: 2,270,000 plus proofs.
Specification: 1.36 g, 0.800 fine silver, 16 mm diameter, reeded edge.
