Straits Settlements 1898 10 cents

from the Stack's Bowers June 2021 Collector's Choice sale, lot 73227

This specimen was lot 73227 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $552. The catalog description^[1] noted, "STRAITS SETTLEMENTS. 10 Cents, 1898. London Mint. Victoria. NGC MS-62. The steely gray minor presents some alluring brilliance and hints of toning near a portion of the peripheries on the obverse." The type was struck in 1871-1901 and many dates are common, including this one.
