from the Stack's Bowers 2018 Collector's Choice sale, lot 70598

This specimen was lot 70598 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, May 2018), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Stolberg. 2/3 Taler, 1721-IIG. Christof Friedrich and Jost Christian (1704-38). PCGS EF-45 Secure Holder. Moderate gray toning. Overall a presentable piece, no distracting marks." The SCWC lists numerous 2/3 thalers (KM 151, 165, 183, 197, 212, 211, 251, 275, 277, 296, 308, 330) as well as 24 mariengroschen (different denomination, same weight, see KM 117, 134, 195, 286, 294, 315, 269). None are common but are much more available than the rare thalers such as Dav-2799.
