Stolberg in 1789, with Wernigerode to the northwest near Halberstadt

This specimen was lot 1385 in Künker sale 263 (Osnabrück, June 2015), where it sold for €950 (about US$1,227 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"STOLBERG-STOLBERG, GRAFSCHAFT (DIE JÜNGERE STOLBERGER HAUPTLINIE AUS DER TEILUNG VON 1645) Johann Martin, 1638-1669. Reichstaler 1652, Rottleberode. Hübsche Patina, feiner Prägeglanz, sehr schön +. (Germany, county of Stolberg-Stolberg, younger line, John Martin, 1638-69, thaler of 1652. Toned, very fine.)"

This thaler was issued twelve times during 1645-63 yet remains scarce.

Recorded mintage: unknown but scarce.
