Stack's Bowers May 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 72495
SB523-72495r.jpg

This specimen was lot 72495 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $264. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Trade Tokens. Staffordshire. Bilston. Copper Penny Token, 1811. PCGS MS-64 Brown. Obverse: Bust of George III right; Reverse: View of the royal exchange building. This most handsome and wholesome example delivers a rich amount of retained details, with some touches of mint red remaining, and strong details throughout the flan. A most pretty example of a less commonly encountered type." This is not, strictly speaking, a Conder token, being issued after the initial period of their popularity, but we have filed it there nevertheless.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: copper.

Catalog reference: Withers-133A.
