Sincona sale 91, lot 3554

This specimen was lot 3554 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 450 CHF (about US$595 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ St. Gallen, 5 Batzen 1817, St. Gallen. Jahreszahl auf Wertseite. Schräg geriffelter Rand. Vorzüglich. Dunkle Patina. (Switzerland, canton of St. Gall, five batzen of 1817, St. Gall mint, date on the value side. Extremely fine, Dark toned.)"

This type was struck 1817 only. Forty batzen made a thaler. Another five batzen of 1817 (KM 113) had the date on the shield side.

Specification: silver or billon, this specimen 4.27 g.
