Sincona sale 91, lot 3502

This specimen was lot 3502 in Sincona sale 91 (Zürich, May 2024), where it sold for 200 CHF (about US$264 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SCHWEIZ St. Gallen, Beda Angehrn von Hagenwil, 1767-1796. Halbtaler 1777, Münzstätte des Klosters. Mzz. H (für Haag). Dreiblättriger Laubrand. Gutes sehr schön. (Switzerland, canton of St. Gall, Good very fine.)"

The abbey struck coins until 1783; the city continued coinage after the French occupation until confederation. This type was struck 1776-77 and accompanied a thaler (Dav-1778). The canton of St. Gall issued almost no coinage between 1739 and 1786.
