This specimen was lot 34253 in Heritage sale 3049 (Long Beach, September 2016), where it sold for $1,057.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "St. Gallen. Abbey 1/2 Taler 1776 AU58 NGC, This coin has a sharp strike with almost full details, a good amount of luster, and light handling marks. A seldom-seen type with the popular rampant bear motif, and overall outstanding aesthetics. From the Redwood Collection, Part II." This type is noted for 1776-77 and is scarce. This type accompanies a thaler (Dav-1778) and a twenty kreuzer (KM 28). One other half thaler is listed for the eighteenth century, KM 33 for 1780-82.
