Sincona sale 35, lot 5358

This specimen was lot 5358 in Sincona sale 35 (Zürich, October 2016), where it sold for 8,000 CHF (about US$9,497 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"St. Gallen | Abtei, Beda Angehrn von Hagenwil, 1767-1796 Dukat 1774. Selten. Fast FDC. Kleiner Schrötlingsfehler. (abbey of St. Gall, Beda Angehrn von Hagenwil, 1767-1796, ducat of 1774. Rare, About uncirculated, Minor planchet defect.)"

The abbey struck ducats on several occasions in the eighteenth century but all are scarce to rare.

Recorded mintage: unknown but rare.

Specification: 3.5 g, 0.986 fine gold, .109 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.47 g.
