This specimen was lot 3925 in Stephen Album sale 50 (Santa Rosa, CA, September 2024), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "SRI LANKA: Democratic Socialist Republic, AR 1000 rupees, 1998, 50 Years of Independence, Choice Proof." In 1972, Ceylon dropped its membership in the British Commonwealth and changed its name to Sri Lanka, which name is still in use. At present (September 2024), US$1 = 296 Sri Lankan rupees. In October 2014, US$1 = 130 rupees.
Recorded mintage: 25,000 proofs.
Specification: 28.28 g, 0.925 fine silver, 38.6 mm diameter.
