Áureo y Calicó sale 347, lot 435

This specimen was lot 435 in Áureo y Calicó sale 347 (Barcelona, March 2020), where it sold for €700 (about US$924 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"1847. Isabel II. Sevilla. RD. 80 reales. Bella. Brillo original. Ex Colección Isabel de Trastámara 29/10/2015, nº 1368. Rara así. S/C-. (kingdom of Spain, Isabel II, eighty reales of 1847, Seville mint. Handsome, original luster, rare thus, about uncirculated.)"

This type was struck at Barcelona, Madrid and Seville (shown here) 1837-49 in sufficient numbers that it is one of the more common Spanish gold coins of the period. It is the same size as the old two escudos struck in Ferdinand's time.

Recorded mintage: unknown but a better date.

Specification: 21 mm diameter, 6.77 g, .875 fine gold, this specimen 6,84 g.
