Sincona sale 38, lot 1980

This specimen was lot 1980 in Sincona sale 38 (Zürich, May 2017), where it sold for 350 CHF (about US$420 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Fernando VII. 1808-1833 2 Escudos 1829. JB-Sevilla. Fast vorzüglich. (kingdom of Spain, Ferdinand VII, 1808-33, two escudos of 1829, Seville mint. About extremely fine.)"

This issue is a later date of a type struck at Madrid and Seville 1814-33; upon the succession of Isabel II, the denomination was converted to eighty reales (KM 577). The Seville mint issues are awarded a premium over the Madrid product. Unlike the two escudos of the Latin American mints, the two escudos of Spain are fairly common. Assayer JB is listed for 1824-33.
