Spain 1817M medio escudo rev DSLR.jpg

This Spanish half escudo was struck at the Madrid mint in 1817. The Spanish mints issued considerable quantities of half escudos and one escudos in the eighteenth century but seem to have dropped them after 1800. The year 1817 saw the only issue of one escudos (KM 492) in Fernando's reign and this issue, the only half escudo. The half escudo is fairly common but the one escudo is rare. Two escudos are comparatively plentiful.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.69 g, .875 fine gold, .047 troy oz AGW.

Catalog reference: Cayón-16114, KM 492.
