This specimen was lot 73315 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $144. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Reales, 1766-M PJ. Madrid Mint. Charles III. PCGS EF-40. Pale dove gray patina is extremely consistent and satisfying in hand, while hints of mint brightness can be witnessed when examined under a stronger light source. Spared nicks or chatter and wholly original with good eye appeal, both series enthusiasts and Spanish collectors in general will seek this offering." This type was struck at Madrid (shown here) and Seville 1759-71 prior to the introduction of bust coinage. This is a common date altho this example realized double the catalog value.
