This specimen was lot 73312 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, May 2023), where it sold for $216. The catalog description[1] noted, "SPAIN. 2 Reales, 1758-M JB. Madrid Mint. Ferdinand VI. NGC Unc Details--Surface Hairlines. Quite a spectacular and fresh looking high grade example from this seldom encountered issuance. The noted hairlines are extremely light, and, even when viewed at a steeply raked angle, almost impossible to spot within the fields. Complete luster remains across the argent surfaces which are decorated with hints of deep rose and olive gray overtone. Though not perfect, the present example is likely among the best specialists can realistically expect to obtain as Madrid examples so rarely present themselves for sale." Assayer JB is recorded for the years 1754-1759. The Madrid mint struck this type 1754 and 1757-59 and it has a low catalog value.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 6.77 g, 0.833 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Cayón-10444, KM-386.1; Cal-482.
