This specimen was lot 32330 in Heritage sale 3067 (Long Beach, September 2018), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "Spain: Philip V gold 2 Escudos 1742 S-PJ MS62 NGC, Seville mint. Just one point lower than the highest certified specimen. A gorgeous Mint State offering, near-choice with a satin sheen of luster cloaking the sharp round planchet, Philip's portrait boldly defined even to the highest details of his hair. Very rarely offered in a finer state than this example, and thus not a coin the dedicated Spanish collector should let pass by." Seville in Spain struck this type 1730-42, Madrid 1730-34 and Mexico City 1732-47.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 6.77 grams, 0.917 fine gold.
