Spain 1721-Seg F 8 escudos
This specimen was lot 1737 in Sincona sale 76 (Zürich, May 2022), where it sold for 19,000 CHF (about US$23,062 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"SPAIN | Königreich. Felipe V. 1700-1746. 8 Escudos 1721 F, Segovia. Stempel aus 1719 geändert. Vorzüglich-FDC. NGC UNC Details. Leicht gereinigt. (kingdom of Spain, Philip V, 1700-46, eight escudos of 1721, Segovia mint, 1721/19 overdate. Extremely fine-uncirculated, Lightly cleaned.)"
Early milled eight escudos of Philip V are listed for Seville (KM 315, 1719-29), Madrid (KM 316, 1719-27), Segovia (KM 326, 1721 and 1723) and Cuenca (KM 335, 1725 only). All are rare and the Segovia product is very rare. According to Cayón, all known specimens of this date are 1721/19. The portrait type was implemented after 1728.
