This specimen is a relic of the shortlived Basque republic established in the north of Spain during the Spanish Civil War. It was minted in Belgium and may have actually made it to Spain before the region was overrun by the Fascists in June 1937. Many survivors exist.

Recorded mintage: 7,000,000.

Specification: nickel, 22 mm diameter.
