This specimen was lot 75660 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2022), where it sold for $60. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. Penny, 1951. Pretoria Mint. George VI. PCGS PROOF-66 Red. Fully red with sparkling original luster and a near perfect strike." This type was struck 1951-52 only but is common.
Recorded mintage: 3,787,000 plus 2,000 proofs.
Specification: 9.5 g, bronze, 30.8 mm diameter.
