This specimen was lot 73496 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Santa Ana, CA, June 2020), where it sold for $360. The catalog description[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. 5 Shillings, 1951. PCGS PROOFLIKE-68. Tied for finest certified of the date on the PCGS population report. A bright and lustrous example with smooth satiny surfaces and a nice cartwheel effect. The surfaces display light delicate tone that become visible when tilted in the light." This used the same design as the five shillings of 1950 but is only 0.500 fine silver.

Recorded mintage: 383,000 + 1,483 prooflike + 2,000 proofs.

Specification: 28.28 g, 0.500 fine silver, 38.8 mm diameter.
