Stack's Bowers 2021 ANA sale, lot 46078

This specimen was lot 46078 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Costa Mesa, CA, August 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description^[1] noted, "SOUTH AFRICA. Shilling, 1937. NGC AU-58. A pleasing, barely circulated Shilling with frosty luster remaining in the peripheries and endowed with medium gray toning." The shilling was struck in South Africa 1923-60. It was 0.800 fine silver until 1950 and 0.500 fine thereafter. This type was struck for George VI 1937-47. In 1948, the obverse legend was revised to drop "IMPERATOR".

Recorded mintage: 1,194,000 + 118 proofs, a common date.

Specification: 5.65 g, 0.800 fine silver, 23.6 mm diameter.
