This specimen was lot 25984 in Heritage sale 3032 (Chicago, April 2014), where it sold for $6,462.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "George V Penny 1933, MS66 Red and Brown NGC. Plenty of red remains on this superb specimen of the scarce issue of 1933." The South African pennies of George V run 1923-36 with this subtype issued 1931-36. It is reasonably common considering the moderate mintage.
Recorded mintage: 225,000 plus 20 proofs.
Specification: 9.45 g, bronze, 30.8 mm diameter.
