This specimen was lot 3827 in Goldberg sale 70 (Los Angeles, September 2012), where it sold for $3,450. The catalog description[1] noted, "Somalia. 500 Shillings, 1970. On the 10th Anniversary of Independence. Parliament building. NGC graded Proof 64 Ultra Cameo." This type was issued in sets with gold 20, 50, 100 and 200 shillings, most likely distributed to the president's friends and cronies.
Recorded mintage: 8,000.
Specification: 70 g, 0.900 fine gold, 2.025 troy oz AGW.
