This specimen was issued by the Solomon Islands as part of the F.A.O. series. The Solomon Island, especially Guadalcanal, were the scene of heavy fighting during World War Two. Coinage commenced in 1977. This coin has the Franklin Mint mintmark. The collector versions are products of the Franklin Mint and were issued 1977-83. The 1977, struck at the Royal Mint, was the only date that circulated.
Recorded mintage: 6,000 plus 544 for the BU sets plus 5,122 proofs.
Specification: bronze, 2.6 g, 17.5 mm diameter, plain edge.
