This specimen was lot 1314 in Goldberg sale 116 (Los Angeles, June 2020), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "Solomon Islands. 100 Dollars, 1978. Attainment of Sovereignty. Choice Brilliant Proof." The Solomon Islands, especially Guadalcanal, were the scene of heavy fighting during World War Two. Coinage commenced in 1977. The Franklin Mint struck NCLT's to this weight standard for the Solomon Islands in 1978 (KM 9, shown here), 1982 (KM 14) and 1983 (KM 18).
Recorded mintage: 50 + 213 + 3,159 proofs.
Specification: 9.37 g, 0.900 fine gold, 0.2711 ounce AGW.
