This specimen was lot 2018 in Jean Elsen sale 134 (Brussels, September 2017), where it sold for €260 (about US$367 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"SENEGAL, République (1960-), AV 500 francs, 1975. Léopold Sedar Senghor. Fleur de Coin. (republic of Senegal, gold 500 francs of 1975, for president Leopold Senghor. Uncirculated.)"

Léopold Sédar Senghor (1906-2001) was a Senegalese poet, politician and cultural theorist who served as the first president of Senegal (1960–80). This coin was part of a commemorative program that included silver fifty and 150 francs and gold 250, 500, 1000 and 2500 francs. Senegal, which uses the CFA franc, has never issued coinage for circulation.

Recorded mintage: 500 plus 1,250 proofs.

Specification: 7.96 g, 0.917 fine gold.
