Senegal 1975 150 francs
This specimen was lot 1699 in Steve Album sale 16 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2013), where it sold for $200.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "SÉNÉGAL: AR 150 francs, 1975, 25th Anniversary of the Eurafrique Program, with original case & certificate of issue, Proof." Léopold Sédar Senghor (1906-2001) was a Senegalese poet, politician and cultural theorist who served as the first president of Senegal (1960–80). This massive coin was part of a commemorative program that included silver fifty francs and gold 250, 500, 1000 and 2500 francs. This coin is rare; the SCWC shows only a drawing of the coin and not a photo. Senegal, which uses the CFA franc, has never issued coinage for circulation.
